Went to Ikea yesterday with my parents, aunt, and older sister. It was fun! Justine and I haven’t hung out and awhile so we just kind of went off ahead while the grown ups (loosely used term) lagged behind. I got a pillow and a light that looks like a disco ball but projects stars and moons and… Saturn, for some reason, around the room in different colors. Found it in the kid’s section. Very cool.

I also got accidentally (s-seriously) drunk at dinner, but it was free food and the drinks were good so not really complaining. And I still somehow managed to put together my light once I got back to my dorm, though I don’t have much of a recollection as to how that went down. But it works and hasn’t fallen from where I hung it up yet, so MAKE NOTE, I am apparently handy while I am buzzed.

Otherwise I’m still kind of drowning in homework and I cannot fucking wait for this semester to be done. I’m thinking of taking an extension out on one of my essays, but that means I’ll probably be writing the thing over the next week while I should be studying for tests and ngghhh.

Oh, and just found out I have exams on the 19 and 20 of December. Which is a Saturday and a Sunday. fml.

point a: Went to be at 11:30 last night because I was exhausted from staying up late the night before and having to wake up early for class that day. I spent the whole night drifting off and waking up again and I don't think I actually slept for more than an hour at a time. Then I got up at nine this morning to do homework. I don't think I've ever felt this tired before in my life and this is all very not normal for me wtf is up body?

point b: Just watched the new episode of Dexter. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. HOLY FUCKING SHIT

The past few days have been good ones. I like it when I can just go through a week being productive while also zenning out, as that is my natural state of being. Here's hoping that nothing disrupts it before reading week comes along. That we even GET a reading week in October this year is kind of weird, but hey, if it gives me a chance to go home and make some money I'll take it.

I'm really enjoying my classes this time around. Canadian Studies is SHOCKINGLY more interesting than I thought it would be. I think it's thanks to the Prof knowing how to teach, that he tells history like it's a story and therefore manages to stop things from dragging too much. Also for once I think I actually kind of get politics, wao. Plus the discussion topics are good ones. The whole "IS CANADA DOOMED TO BE EATEN BY THE STATES?" thing never gets old. The Bible and Modern Contexts has been fun too, but that's less of a surprise since I like learning about religion from a more... scholarly, point of view? I think it's also kind of got me going back to being an agnostic again rather than an atheist. Yesterday the class was pretty much centered around debates between reading the bible literally or symbolically. The argument between creationism vs. evolution was kind of dull, but when things got onto gay marriage people started to get really pissed off. One kid was so offended (I GUESS??) that he got up and stormed out of the lecture hall when someone pointed out that the bible only ever specifies that two men can't sleep together, therefore, if we're taking it literally, two woman should be okay. Good times.

I'm kind of falling into my coasting along habits though, which I need to try to get myself out of. Start time managing, logging off the internet while I'm working on an essay, etc.

The University also has their annual poster art exhibit. Thing. Going on this week, which has kept my mood lifted. Though there were waaaaay too many fucking Twilight posters this year. Am I the only person who doesn't find the actor who plays Edward stunningly gorgeous? He looked good when he was in Harry Potter, but like this... idk, not doing it for me. Maybe it's the pasty white skin. Anyways, I would have preferred them branching out more on the media spectrum, but I still managed to get my hands on some nice artwork and photography.

In which I talk about movies and home life.

i) I saw District 9 last night. I hesitate to say much about it, because part of what I really liked about this movie is that even if you’ve seen the previews, you still go into the theater not knowing what to expect plot-wise because the advertisements don’t give much away. But, I do think it was an incredibly well done film. Very gritty, realistic, and in your face, and in no way some kind of “creatures invade Earth and we must FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHT TO LIVE FUCK YES” flick. Which, I mean, there’s nothing particularly wrong with those, but I liked how District 9 basically decided to spin that idea on its head and instead use it as a way to explore xenophobia and human nature --both the good and bad of it. To be honest, it unsettled me in a lot of ways, but that’s exactly what it was aiming to do.

ii) The fact that The Time Traveler’s Wife movie is only rated PG is enough to tell me they really dropped the ball on making it anything like the book. This is something that’s meant to have sex, drugs, and rock and roll, people!

iii) My sister’s boyfriend needs to start doing chores around here or move the fuck out of our house and back in with his own family. It’s not that the guy is a total bum, he does have a job and works all day five days a week. Give or take. But really? I don’t give a shit. We all work around here, and even if he’s tired at the end of the day, when the man has been sitting at home two hours before anyone else walks through the door, we shouldn't have to come in and find that the kitchen counter is still a mess from this morning and the dishwasher is filled to the brim and yet, for some reason, not running. It’s really starting to piss me off that he gets away with doing nothing around here so easily.

Took a shot at applying for my courses for my upcoming year of school today. This was a failure, as I was denied access to all but one because apparently the remaining seats in the rest are all being reserved for students who are actually in the english department.

Which, you know, is the department I am in.

So the courses are being reserved for me, yet I can't actually sign up.

Recent not-so-exciting things.

i) My boss fucked up my hours and now I'm scheduled to work during the same time I have a Doctor's appointment. Boss won't allow me to switch shifts with someone in that night and instead is opting to ask a girl who will be in school at the time to come work instead. I am not amused.

ii) Also work related, some guy in the store is under the impression that I am, in fact, my sister. How he made this mistake when she has dreadlocks and I currently have long, straight hair, I don't know. I didn't actually realize this until after having a few conversations with him, since I just figured he was someone I met briefly last year and forgot about, but rolled with it when he spoke to me like he knew me anyways. I don't even know how I'm supposed to correct the man at this point without it being horribly awkward. My problems are quite lame.

iii) I have a blind/double date next Saturday. Wat.

iv) Haha apping stress. There are three counselors I'm currently considering going for and I keep jumping around between them because I don't know which one I want the most. Unfortunately, I'm not really feeling a burning love for any of them, just a general sense of "oh, he would be fun to play :')". I'm half tempted to throw up my hands and not app at all, but I really feel like I need a third because when I play I keep grasping for a character that isn't there. Sadly, I can't figure out what type I should go for in order to fill the gap.
